C O N T E N T SApril 2003 | Vol. XVIII, No. 1Transforming Saint Andrew’s In light of last year’s congregational surveys, and in harmony with Bishop Jon Bruno’s vision for the Diocese as a whole, the Bishop’s Committee recently identified formation as the primary 2003 focus for Saint Andrew’s. But what is formation? And how can we achieve it, both as individuals and as a community? Most of the Holy Year hurtles along at breakneck speed, compressing the 33 years of Jesus’ life into about half as many weeks. But during Holy Week we slow down and share, in real time, Christ’s journey into Jerusalem, to the cross, and beyond. As sacred and profane time touch, we come to understand that journey more fully. And as our lives pace themselves with Christ’s, we realize one of the most profound elements of God’s grace and love: that what happened to Jesus happened because it happens to us. TUESDAY IN HOLY WEEK Luke’s words remind us that Christ’s suffering, death, and burial were witnessed and shared by many women, who in weeping for him wept also for themselves. They still do. “Reflections on Women of the Cross” is a Holy Week observance for, by, and about women. Featuring music composed by Margaret Scharf, O.P., and dramatic readings written by the Rev. Ginna Benson, this evening of scripture, story, song, and silence explores the place of female experience in the story of the Passion. Help the Bunny on Easter Eve
New-vicar questions? By TERI POYTHRESS, Bishop’s Warden Many of you have questions about the process by which a new vicar will be appointed to Saint Andrew’s. How will Bishop Bruno choose? Does the bishop know our needs? What happens to Ginna? When will the appointment take place? Even though I don’t have answers to all of these questions, I find comfort in our Lord’s hands. |
