New-vicar questions? Here’s the process

By TERI POYTHRESS, Bishop's Warden

Many of you have questions about the process by which a new vicar will be appointed to Saint Andrew’s. How will Bishop Bruno choose? Does the bishop know our needs? What happens to Ginna? When will the appointment take place? Even though I don’t have answers to all of these questions, I find comfort in our Lord’s hands. We have come to this place with his guidance, and I believe he will continue along this journey with us. I know that many of you dutifully prayed while the Bishop’s Committee participated in numerous discussions leading up to the final vote. We read your e-mails and letters. We shared your thoughts among us. I felt your prayers, and am thankful for them. At this point in the process we wait, pray, listen, and busy ourselves with serving this community.

When the time is right, Bishop Bruno will contact Saint Andrew’s, either through Ginna, myself, or the B.C. He knows much about us already. I understand that we will have opportunity to discuss our needs with him. In fact, I will be meeting with Bp. Anderson on May 1. Then, it is completely in his hands to choose our next vicar for us. Unless the Holy Spirit alters her course, Ginna will fulfill her contract with us, which ends in the winter of 2004 (sometime between next January and March). With perfect timing, our new vicar would subsequently arrive.
